DRAINAGE & PATHWAYS

Keep the course open when the weather turns.

A waterlogged hole takes revenue and rounds off the course every time it rains hard. Good drainage is what keeps a course playing through a wet winter. It is also where our groundworks background runs deepest.

THE PROBLEM

When water has nowhere to go.

Every course has its wet spots. A low hole that sits under water for days, an approach that turns soft, a stretch that closes the moment the rain sets in. Members notice, the calendar suffers, and the greens team spends the winter managing a problem rather than the course.

Most of it comes down to drainage that was never right, or has stopped working. Put the water where it should go, and the ground above it behaves.

DRAINAGE

We design it with you, not just for you.

Drainage is not a product you drop in. It depends on the ground, the fall of the land, and where the water is actually coming from, which is why we work it out alongside your greens team rather than handing you a fixed answer.

We start by finding the cause. Then we design a scheme to move the water away and build it. On one parkland course, a hole had become so waterlogged it could not be played at all through the wetter months. We worked out the drainage with the club, built it, and the hole now plays all year round. That is the work that tends to get us recommended from one course to the next.

PATHWAYS

Paths that take the traffic and the weather.

Paths are the part of the course in use every single day, in every condition, and they wear accordingly. A worn or muddy path is both an eyesore and a hazard on a course that prides itself on its condition.

Hard-wearing surfaces are where Countrywide started. The same background that has us building and maintaining station car parks across the country is what we bring to a golf path: ground prepared properly underneath, a surface laid to last, and a finish that suits the setting rather than fighting it.
